| The video game Mortal Kombat will remain banned from being sold in Australia after the Classification Review Board upheld a decision for it to be classified "refused classification".
Earlier this month it was revealed that the Classification Board had given Mortal Kombat a "refused classification" rating due to its violent gameplay, effectively banning it from sale in this country unless the publisher, Warner Bros, submitted a more toned-down version.
Warner Bros appealed the decision but today said that it had been unsuccessful. Advertisement: Story continues below
"We're obviously extremely disappointed that the refused classification decision has been upheld by the Classification Review Board," a spokesperson said. "We want to thank the thousands of Mortal Kombat fans in Australia and around the world who have voiced their support during the appeal process."
Australia does not have an R18+ rating for games so any game that is found to be unsuitable for 15 year olds is automatically banned from sale.
