| AN UNPAID citizen army, its ranks filled by truck drivers, construction workers, skilled tradespeople and anyone capable of wielding a shovel, will start a clean-up of ''postwar proportions'' in Brisbane, Ipswich and Toowoomba today.
An extraordinary meeting between the emergency services, government ministers and Brisbane's Lord Mayor, Campbell Newman, about 1pm yesterday came up with a detailed plan to repair the flood devastation.
The sheer scale of the damage, and the need to quickly dispose of the thousands of tonnes of mud, broken furniture and garbage filling hundreds of streets, called for an extraordinary response, said the state's Premier, Anna Bligh.
