| MORE than six months after the state government postponed plans for a Sydney metro project, a group of small-business owners say the about-face has left their businesses reeling and the government is refusing to provide adequate compensation.
Jason Blaiklock claimed about $3 million for costs and forgone profits for his business, Australian Opal Cutters, after he arranged to move last year when told his four floors of premises in Pitt Street would be demolished to make way for the metro.
He was so ''insulted'' at an offer of less then $60,000 this week, which he claimed did not even cover his cash expenses, that he decided to challenge it in court before deciding to cut a deal with the Sydney Metro Authority for a little over double that sum.
