A female police officer is in hospital after she was allegedly punched in the throat while trying to disperse out-of-control revellers at a party in Narrogin overnight.

Police were called to a disturbance at the Narrogin Leisure Centre about 10pm after the party got out of hand.

Officers were confronted with a group of about 30 mostly intoxicated party goers who began throwing sticks and bricks at them.

Police were forced to call for back up and a unit was dispatched from Perth.

Seven people have been charged as a result of the disturbance with charges including disorderly by fighting, cannabis possession, wilful damage and obstructing police.

A woman was also charged with assaulting a public officer causing bodily harm.

She was due to appear in court this morning.

The six others have been bailed to appear in the Narrogin Magistrates Court in August.

The assaulted officer is still in hospital seeking further treatment.
