| Furious farmers warn one of Sydney's prime food-producing communities will die if planned ''cease-to-pump'' laws are imposed along the Hawkesbury River.
The NSW Office of Water has released a draft water-sharing plan for the Hawkesbury-Nepean river system, on the city's north-western fringe, which farmers fear will slash the amount of water they can pump from the river for irrigation.
But Water Minister Phillip Costa said the Greater Metropolitan Region Water Sharing Plans ''secures the future of the vital agriculture industries it supports''.
The plan includes cease-to-pump days that ban farmers taking water during summer's peak, when river levels are low.
