| Detective Liusila brown was shot dead outside the High Court building after 3:30 this afternoon.
An audio recording of the shooting was captured by our reporter La Poasa who was at the courthouse to cover the verdict of the trial of Solomona Samatua.
La Poasa who was interviewing Samatua’s attorney David Vargas heard the shots and ran outside.
She spoke by phone from the scene minutes after the shooting.
The body of police veteran Lt. Liusila Brown was finally taken by an EMS van half an hour after Brown was shot six times in front of the High Court this afternoon.
Brown, a father of four, was one of the investigators that probed several cases involving members of the Siaumau family.
He was in the courtroom along with several other police officers to hear the verdict in the trial of Solomona Samatua.
Samatua was acquitted of all the assault and weapons charges by a jury. Immediately after the verdict was heard, people were exiting the courtroom when they heard gunshots outside of the High Court.
KHJ News witnessed Siaumau Siaumau Jr., aka T. Siaumau firing away bullets into detective Brown, who then fell to the floor covered in blood.
The shooter then screamed out that’s what you get for messing with the Siaumau family. He then began screaming profanities and then proceeded to kick Brown’s face several times.
The court marshal with the assistance of police officers wrestled the gun away from the shooter.
More officers came to detain Siaumau and put him in a police vehicle.
Several colleagues of Brown and a few relatives were in tears seeing Brown lying lifeless on the cement outside of the court building while relatives of Siaumau Jr., screamed at him yelling why and asking him to stop.
Minutes later, more police officers came to the scene including acting chief of police Leseiau Laumoli.
It’s unclear why EMS took long to arrive at the scene but after Brown had been lying there for more than 10 minutes, two officers came and covered his body with materials.
It was 10 minutes later that the EMS arrived and took Brown away.
Solomona Samatua stayed in the courtroom while all this was happened and his attorney advised him to get in their car and leave, which they did.
More than 20 police officers are now at the scene, blocking away the area where the shooting took place.

Even better, under territorial law, police officers aren't allowed to carry guns
Nothing like a bit of role-reversal...
