CHRISTINE NIXON has stepped down as head of the taskforce responsible for the Black Saturday reconstruction effort.

The chairwoman of Victoria's Bushfire Recovery and Reconstruction Authority announced her decision in a statement yesterday.

Earlier, she told a meeting of community recovery committees she would take on a voluntary advisory role with the authority. A spokeswoman said it was a coincidence that the announcement coincided with Prime Minister Julia Gillard launching a federal election campaign.
