| Subject: Good idea: Scrap crappy study themes, OZschwitz Coalition says, and bring in 'mainstream' topics Wed May 26, 2010 5:28 am | |
| HE Coalition is calling for the three themes which are to be woven through national curriculum subjects - sustainability, Asia and indigenous perspectives - to be scrapped or replaced with more ''mainstream'' or ''practical'' topics.
It has also set the stage for a showdown with state governments by recommending national year 12 exams be introduced to accompany the national curriculum.
Liberal senator Brett Mason, the opposition's spokesman for school curriculum standards, put the proposals in a submission to the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, which is responsible for the new study program.
