Three leading City financiers were among six men arrested over an alleged major insider dealing ring today.

In an unprecedented crackdown on 'market abuse', the suspects were held during dawn raids on 16 homes and businesses.

One of the men is an executive from Deutsche Bank while another works for major French investment bank BNP Paribas. A third is a trader for hedge fund Moore Capital, a $20billion operation which is one of the best-known in the City.

It is claimed City workers passed inside information to traders, both directly and via middlemen, who used the sensitive data to cash in.

The amounts of money said to have been obtained in the scam were not revealed by the authorities.
