WALHALLA, S.C. -- A 26-year-old Oconee County, S.C., deputy was killed early Sunday morning just moments after speaking to his pregnant wife on the phone, officials said.

Deputy William Frederick Schuck III died in a freak accident off Highway 11 North near Walhalla, S.C.

Schuck was pinned between his patrol car and a tree, coroner Karl Addis said.
