| THE new Fair Work labour laws - hailed by the Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, as ''simpler and fairer for everyone'' - will impose more complicated obligations on many businesses, an employer representative said.
Next week Ms Gillard will tour the country promoting the workplace system which slashes the number of awards and introduces 10 national employment standards on all workplaces.
But the director of workplace policy at the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, David Gregory, said many employers remained ignorant or confused by the changes, which include provisions extending the scope for parental leave.
