Futures trader Dave Lamoureux set a record this month for catching a 157-pound bluefin tuna. Alone. In his kayak. It's the third bluefin he's caught since July off the Massachusetts coast, as one of a growing coterie of kayakers fishing for the behemoths. Using secret tactics, the New York Times reports, Lamoureux hooks the fish—the rod is strapped to a harness on his chest— and holds on for dear life as he's dragged around, possibly for hours, at up to 15mph.

Luckily, Lamoureux's day job prepares him for such wild rides. “Being a trader, you like risk. You’re comfortable with it. You have to weigh the reward versus the other side, which in this case is your life.” As Lamoureux’s exploits become the talk of locals and of fishing blogs, he's having to keep his secrets close to the chest: “or else guys who are younger and in better shape will be breaking my records.” But a wise risk-taker knows when to step back, as Lamoureux had to do with an 800-pounder. "That fish is so big, it doesn’t even know you’re here."
