Four police officers have been arrested in Greece as part of a crackdown on an alleged prostitution and people trafficking ring with links to several east European countries.

Authorities say the four officers were among 25 people arrested following raids at nightclubs and strip clubs, private homes and unlicensed brothels, mostly in greater Athens.

The suspects, including several retired police officers, are due to be charged with membership of a criminal organization, an offense which carries a 25-year jail sentence.

The arrested officers allegedly helped supply eastern European women with false identification documents and tipped off nightclub owners about planned police vice raids.

The arrests were announced Wednesday.
