A police officer has been stabbed after responding to reports of a disturbance in Angus.

Tayside Police said two officers were injured after being called to a property in Brechin early on Saturday.

Both men were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where a 48-year-old officer is still being treated for wounds to his back and arm.

His injuries were not thought to be life threatening. A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with the attack.

BBC Scotland understands the officers had been called to deal with a domestic incident in Montrose Street.

The stabbed officer, who has 25 years' service, was assaulted outside the property.

His 20-year-old colleague suffered minor cuts and was allowed home after treatment.

Both men had been wearing protective gear.
