The federal government keeps finding new ways to waste money — from an a $495,000 exhibit about “smells” in Medieval times to a $500,000 study of fish bones found in Africa 500 years ago, according to a report issued Monday. The annual compilation by Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) turned up nearly 100 expenditures he described as either strange or wasteful. They included: $495,000 to create a Medieval art and “smells” exhibit. $180,000 to develop a new method of counting and tagging ducks. A $2 million study that found children don’t like eating food that’s been sneezed on. “We could have answered that question for less than $2 million,” Lankford said.
