| Australia's top statistician has said the Australian Bureau of Statistics is "ready" for the census on August 9, describing the department as having "the best security features [for which] you could ever ask".
Addressing the media on Wednesday, in a week plagued by privacy fears and technical difficulties, David Kalisch put community security fears down to a "heightened dimension around privacy".
"From what I understand, a number of the privacy groups have raised this in every census for the last number of times ... particularly with much more electronic information, but I can assure the Australian population the ABS has the best security features [for which] you could ever ask."
