| Houston Astros pitcher Dallas Keuchel has responded to a heckling fan in Oakland in a hilarious way.
The 26-year-old wasn't even playing in the game, but was somehow the target of one fan's abuse.
Professional athletes do their best to tune out hecklers, but sometimes it can be fun to respond.
Keuchel wrote a message on a baseball and tossed it to the heckler.
"Thanks for helping pay my salary for today" it read:
Well played, Dallas, well played.
Earlier this year, Cincinatti Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips gave a signed ball to a drunken heckler in Pittsburgh, telling him to "shut up."
Keuchel's ball probably isn't as cool as Phillips' (there's no signature), but it's still a clever retort that's turned into a cool piece of memorabilia.
The trouble with these types of keepsakes, though, is when the owner shows it off, he has to admit that he was being a butthead toward a baseball player.
Kuechel, in case you're wondering, is making $US508,000 this season ($AU540,000).
