| Conservationists blocked from protesting against Japanese whaling are appealing for stronger action by the Australian government over the high-seas conflict.

The confrontation between the harpoon ship Yushin Maru and the Bob Barker in Antarctica's Ross Sea on Sunday was the third incident in which the whalers prevented the activists from proceeding on the high seas.
In an effort to free themselves of the blockade, activists in small boats from the Bob Barker tried to cut the cable, but were unsuccessful, ship's captain Peter Hammarstedt said.
