| The disgraced son-in-law of King Juan Carlos of Spain has brought further embarrassment to the royal family with the publication of a series of crude and sexist private emails in which he ridicules his in-laws.
Inaki Urdangarin, who was given the title of Duke of Palma when he married the king's youngest daughter Princess Cristina, in 1997, is being investigated for allegedly using his royal connections to embezzle public funds, a scandal that has damaged the reputation of the Spanish monarchy.
Emails from his computers seized as part of the investigation were leaked to Spanish daily newspaper El Mundo. While they may show he has a sense of humour, it will do nothing to heal the rift between him and the royal family.
In two emails sent by the duke to his now-estranged wife about 10 years ago he lampoons the future Queen of Spain, just days after Crown Prince Felipe announced his engagement to Letizia Ortiz, a former television journalist. Advertisement
One includes a pun about Prince Felipe having sexual intercourse with Letizia and the other shows screen shots of female newsreaders, including Letizia, and is titled ''orgasms''.
In another email he compares Jaime de Marichalar, the then husband of Princess Elena, to Inspector Clouseau and Inspector Gadget - based on his penchant for trench coats and trilby hats.
The eldest daughter of the king divorced her husband in 2010.
The duke also betrays a sexist side, forwarding a joke about women's ineptitude with modern technology suggesting an iron could be used as a prototype computer mouse.
In another he sends a spoof email to friends saying he had taken up a job working with refugees in the Middle East. To explain his decision he attaches a photograph of the group he has been assigned to work with - six topless women brandishing rifles.
The duke lives alone in Barcelona after his wife moved to Geneva with their four children.
