| Prison officers say inmates, not management, at Grafton jail first revealed they would be losing their jobs.
The Public Service Association said it has just been told that 92 out of 120 jobs at Grafton jail will be cut.
Shane O'Brien, the association's assistant general secretary, said only 28 staff members would remain. Advertisement: Story continues below
"This is an outrage," he said. "People went into work yesterday and were told by inmates that they had lost their jobs.
"They were then told by their managers they would have to be at a meeting this morning.
"They weren't told how many jobs would go. They were just told Grafton would be a transitional centre with a maximum of 60 inmates at each time."
Mr O'Brien said that while staff had been offered voluntary redundancies "there was nothing voluntary about it".
"They have to volunteer for redundancy or apply for transfers," he said.
