Two friends who were believed to be drag racing at speeds of up to 199km/h are among 20,000 people caught speeding by the new fixed camera on Mitchell Freeway.

The workmates, in their 20s, are among 12 people caught driving recklessly by the fixed camera in the five days since it was installed on the northbound lane.

Three of the 12 drivers, who were driving at more than 45km/h over the limit, have been charged and more are expected to face similar charges.
