After three months in darkness, notorious message board 8chan has resurfaced on the clear web.

The website, which was commonly used by white supremacists to share extremist views, was back online on Tuesday with a new name: 8kun.

The rebranded website encouraged users to "speak freely - legally" and claimed "any content that violates the laws of the United States of America will be deleted and the poster will be banned".

On Tuesday, boards themed around video games, comics and cartoons, music, and Formula One had already been created. Administrator Ron Watkins, the son of 8chan owner Jim Watkins, wrote on Twitter they were getting hit with "huge traffic" after its launch and the team was working to stabilise the network.
