Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has thrown down a challenge to business leaders to encourage more men to take up parental leave, saying the pressure on women to return to work quickly after having children was "unconscionable".

Ohanian is married to tennis champion Serena Williams and has previously written about the importance of his own paternity leave when his wife "nearly died" after the birth of their daughter Olympia in 2017.

"It's sad that it had to affect me so personally to care as much as I do now … but it has also given me some perspective that I think will allow a lot of men to care long before they become fathers themselves," he said on stage at the Hubspot Inbound conference in Boston on Wednesday.
