| The US is imposing additional sanctions on Russia for its 2018 nerve-agent attack in the UK on a former Russian spy and his daughter.
“This act endangered thousands of lives,” said State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus.
The sanctions, which will take effect later this month and last a year, will box Russia out of US banking services, including debt financing, and will keep Vladimir Putin’s government from buying American products for use in his chemical and biological weapons program, the Daily Signal reported.
Former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal, who was granted amnesty by Great Britain in 2010, was dosed with Novichok, a deadly nerve agent, in the British town of Salisbury in March 2018. He and his daughter Yulia survived the attack, but a British civilian who was inadvertently exposed died.
President Trump booted 60 Russian diplomats from the US in the wake of the assassination attempt.
