Awesome: Watch This Painfully Awkward Teen Transform into a Rock God on ‘America’s Got Talent’

You are not ready for Courtney Hadwin. Howie Mandel was not ready. Simon Cowell was not ready. Heidi Klum was not ready. Tyra Banks was not ready. And you are not ready for the 13-year-old rock legend in the making that took America’s Got Talent by storm last night.

The shy teenager took the stage last night and she could barely get through the brief one-on-one interview with judge Mel B because she was so nervous. She meekly admitted that music was her favorite subject in school, her quiet answers prompting encouragement from the judges. And then Hadwin assumed the position, signaled that she was ready to rock, and rock she did!

What followed was the teenager’s take on the Otis Redding classic “Hard to Handle.” Hadwin transformed, absolutely possessed by the music and more confident than rock stars with a million times her stage experience. She wailed like Janis and shimmied like Mick to the classic song, completely wowing every single person in the audience. Seriously, Heidi and Tyra’s reactions are perfect GIFs in the making.

The judges were floored. “Bloody hell, Courtney,” said the notoriously curmudgeonly Cowell. “You’re like this shy little thing when you first came out. And then you sing, and you’re like a lion. I mean, genuinely, incredible.”

Mandel was even more impressed, saying that Hadwin is “not from this era. You’re from a whole different era.” As a huge Janis Joplin fan, Mandel told the story of Clive David discovering the legend decades ago. “I’m not Clive Davis, I’m Howie Mandel,” said Mandel, earnestly. “The only thing I can do for you, young lady, is give you…” He then slammed the Golden Buzzer, which allows Hadwin to jump right to the live rounds of the competition.

The moment is truly epic, as Hadwin’s father rushes out to hug her, as golden confetti rains down around them. This was not only a life-changing moment for Hadwin, but a mega moment in AGT history.
