A couple in England has been fined for erecting a fake garage door to conceal a secret unauthorised house from council.

Residents of a property in Enderby, Leicestershire, had to pay a total of £4000 ($7070) for converting their garage to a small dwelling without planning permission.

Blaby District Council was first tipped off about the unauthorised work in 2015 after the owners of the property, Dr Reeta Herzallah and Mr Hamdi Almasri erected a fence around the former garage and converted it into a cottage. They had also created “unauthorised vehicular access” onto a nearby busy motorway.
