| Subject: Good: Why I will never 'live for my children' Wed Jan 10, 2018 5:13 pm | |
| The words "I live for my children" will never leave my mouth. Does this make me a bad parent? No, I don't think so. That saying just doesn't align with how I live my life.
In my late teenage years and early 20s, I was the beer-drinking youth who was footloose and fancy free. I would dance on tables, drink flaming shots and generally have a grand old time.
Then I had children. But I did not morph into a Puritan. My past me did not become any less me. All it means now is that I have responsibilities - what a dirty word.
How dare people expect me to be a moralled, well behaved, contributing member of society, let alone to raise others to be like-minded.
I am torn. Torn between wanting to streak through the streets and wanting to raise children that deem that behaviour to be unseemly. This leaves me at a crossroads. Which path do I turn down - trash mum or super mum?
