| A new study has found that, rather than distracting you from your task, a short nap can actually improve memory function.
The study, conducted by postgraduate student Sara Studte at Saarland University and published in Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, found that a nap of less than an hour had a positive effect on a person's memory recall.
Study participants were shown multiple pairs of unrelated words (like "milk taxi"). After they were shown the words, half of the participants took a nap, while the other half spent 30 minutes watching a DVD.
When the participants were tested again, those who took a nap were able to remember the words as accurately as they could immediately after they learnt them, while those who took a DVD remembered fewer of the pairs.
