| Subject: Nobody in government shows up to help NASA celebrate 55 years - YaY! Tue Oct 01, 2013 7:48 pm | |
| Most 55-year-olds would welcome spending their birthday away from their jobs. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is reluctantly getting to do just that today.
NASA turned 55 today, a victim of the current government shutdown, which isn't exactly something to celebrate.
The agency opened its doors October 1, 1958, following passage of legislation months earlier on July 29, 1958.
Last night at midnight eastern time, the federal government underwent its first shutdown in 17 years, with non-essential NASA employees effected, including a few thousand affected locally at the Johnson Space Center.
