A former bar manager was fined a total of $8,000 on Friday for living on immoral earnings and managing a contact point for prostitutes.

Balamurugan Thiyanamuthi, 30, admitted to knowingly living in part on the earnings of a 29-year-old Filipina and managing Trafford Bar in Arab Street as a place of assignation between Oct 22, 2010, and Mar 6.

The court heard that the Filipina and her two colleagues from the Philippines were working concurrently at the pub as performing artistes and prostitutes.

In the course of their work, Balamurugan had told them that apart from being performing artistes, they were also expected to 'go out with customers', which the Filipinas knew to mean that they had to provide sexual services to customers who brought them out of the pub.
