| Sentinel XJ is the luxury limo for evading terrorist attacks.
It's the Jaguar of choice for dictators, presidents and even English premiership footballers.
The British luxury car maker is launching an armour-plated version of its XJ limousine at next week's Moscow motor show.
The Sentinel model looks like a regular long-wheelbase XJ but its aluminium body incorporates an inner cell made of high-strength steel and Kevlar - a material popularised by military and police body-armour vests.
Jaguar claims the car offers protection from a range of weapons and bombs, including bullets from the popular AK47 assault rifle and armour-piercing M61, grenades, and even a close-proximity blast from 15kg of TNT explosives.
The car is also fitted with run-flat tyres so the car can be driven even in the event of a puncture.
The Sentinel is powered by the same 283kW 5.0-litre V8 available in the XJ range, though it won't be as quick at escaping a terrorist attack.
The armoured XJ weighs 3.3 tonnes, nearly double the mass of the showroom long-wheelbase V8 model. According to Jaguar, it takes four seconds longer - 9.7sec - to accelerate from 0-100km/h. Its top speed is also limited to 195km/h.
Jaguar says the Sentinel's suspension and steering have been modified to ensure the XJ remains agile despite the dramatic weight increase. The car maker has also fitted it with the more powerful brakes from the supercharged V8 XJ.
The interior still accommodates four occupants, in "discreet" comfort. Jaguar claims the rear seat offers a metre of legroom.
The Sentinel comes with a full support program that includes a dedicated security consultant, options for additional security features and drive training - presumably in evasive manoeuvre techniques.
