Bwahaha Funny: Police Chief's cop killer son given police escort to cemetery

DALLAS - Many in the Dallas Police Department are outraged that a dozen on-duty officers were called to escort the funeral procession of a cop killer – the son of Dallas Police Chief David Brown.

David Brown, Jr. was buried Friday in Pleasant Grove, five days after he shot and killed two people including a Lancaster police officer . Brown Jr. was killed by Lancaster police returning fire.

Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm explained as his funeral procession headed down Highway 75 it apparently ran into congestion from an accident. Motorists were weaving in and out of the procession so someone on the DPD command staff ordered a police escort.

The Dallas Police Association said the honor of a police escort is usually reserved for officers killed in the line of duty.

The organization’s Website states, “Certainly the death of a family member is tragic, but to elevate the funeral to that level reserved for slain officers is repulsive and an embarrassment to DPD. THOSE RESPONSIBLE SHOULD RESIGN IMMEDIATELY!”

Suhm said neither she nor Chief Brown had prior knowledge of the action.

“It was determined by command staff in the procession that the weaving automobiles presented a public safety hazard and command staff determined that units were needed to assist in maintaining safety. This was not a planned event nor a full honor escort. The action will be fully investigated and may lead to disciplinary action.” she said in a statement.

DPA President Glen White doesn't buy the city's excuse. He said it is not normal for so many officers to be called on in such a situation.

"This person was afforded an opportunity that is not provided to normal citizens in the city of Dallas," White said. "There was not one reason that can be justified that the honor given to slain police officers is given to that person that killed a police officer and a citizen. That excuse basically is BS."

Late Friday, Dep. Chief Julian Bernal said the decision to use the police escort was his.

Bernal said he thinks he made the right decision and he has no reason to resign.
